The Iglesia Virgen del Patrocinio church is located on Calle de la Iglesia in the Barrio de la Iglesia, the district of Tombrío de Arriba also known as Barrio del Oteiro. The Diocese of Astorga lists the parish of Tombrío de Arriba under the patronage of La Presentación.

The local festival of Tombrío de Arriba is dedicated to Saint James on 25 July. For the patronal festival in his honour, a programme featuring live music, traditional activities and local cuisine was planned from 25 to 27 July. The local calendar therefore includes both the individual feast day and a multi-day programme with different elements.

A dovecote in Tombrío de Arriba may date from the 16th century and could possibly be the oldest dovecote in the province. The dating remains cautiously phrased, as does the comparison with other dovecotes in the province.

History

Los Chanos is considered a possibly Roman fortified settlement and castro. The Los Chanos archaeological site lies on the western slope of El Castro hill, amid oak vegetation and low scrub.

El Castro is considered a possibly Iron Age II fortified settlement and castro. The elevated, circular El Castro hill lies at the confluence of the Arroyo del Castro and Arroyo del Pradón. Its slopes are covered with oaks and low scrub.

The two archaeological references thus differ in their chronological classification: at Los Chanos, the possible Roman attribution is foregrounded, while at El Castro, the possible connection with Iron Age II is emphasised. Both names also retain the classification as a fortified settlement and castro.

Landscape

The public Fuente El Fontanón spring is located in a kind of crevice in the ground within the village; stone walls reinforce the spring. The public Fuente de la Pasada spring is located in the Barrio de El Campo at ground level and is surrounded by ornamental stones.

The two springs feature different structural settings: Fuente El Fontanón is enclosed within a crevice in the ground, while Fuente de la Pasada lies at ground level in the Barrio de El Campo. The respective features include stone walls at the first spring and ornamental stones at the second.

The elevated, circular El Castro hill lies at the confluence of the Arroyo del Castro and Arroyo del Pradón; its slopes are covered with oaks and low scrub. Los Chanos is located on the western slope of the same hill amid this vegetation.

Access

Access to the Los Chanos archaeological site is via the LE-716 road to Tombrío de Arriba, followed from Barrio Seco in the direction of El Castro.
