In Páramo del Sil, the Ruta de las bóvedas to Catoute can be started in the village. Catoute reaches an altitude of 2,117 metres. Another route initially follows the Ruta Alto Sil a la Sierra de Gistredo from Páramo del Sil to Primout.
Nature and Trails
Special trail features include the Cabanos, former shepherds’ shelters that have been restored for hiking. The Ruta de los Molinos passes through dense riparian woodland with walnut trees, ash trees, oaks, poplars, alders and birches. When planning your own route, you can distinguish the trails by mountain destination, woodland landscape and cultural and historical traces.
The proposed route of the Ruta del Miro begins in Valdeprado. From Páramo del Sil, Valdeprado is reached via the N-631 towards Villablino and then via the road to Cerredo. Lago del Miro is a glacial lake, while Miro de Páramo offers views of the Sil gorge and the villages in the municipality. The Ruta del Miro, also known as Pico Cheiroso, is not suitable for inexperienced hikers.
The La Campona route begins in Páramo del Sil. From a natural viewpoint, it offers views of the Tejera Valley, Salentinos and the Catoute massif. The route also leads to the Peña Furada natural arch and to the Pedrosillo shelter. The viewpoint, natural arch and shelter serve as different reference points for planning your own route.
Culture and History
The Casa de la Indiana in Páramo del Sil dates from the 18th century. The parish church of Páramo del Sil is neoclassical and has a dome over the crossing. The villagescape includes traditional stone and slate buildings with coats of arms, as well as wooden balconies typical of Bierzo Alto.
The Museo etnográfico is located on the upper floor of the multipurpose building in Páramo del Sil. It displays old local handicraft items, agricultural equipment, kitchen utensils, craft tools and fishing equipment. The Galería Minera is a true-to-scale reconstruction of a mine in which a former miner explains the development of the mining districts, working methods and the materials used.
The watermills along the Ruta de los Molinos are historic relics and a tourist attraction. The celebration in honour of the Virgen de las Nieves includes a solemn Mass and a procession around the chapel.
