Culture
The Monasterio de Santa María de Carracedo features architectural elements of Transitional Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical styles. El Varal is divided into four areas: agriculture, bread, slaughter and wine. The Horno de Carracedado del Monasterio is included in the municipality’s guided tours of its ethnographic heritage.
Visiting
The Monasterio de Santa María de Carracedo can be visited in winter, from 1 October to 31 March, continuously from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and in summer, from 1 April to 30 September, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It is closed on Mondays.
Routes
The Camino de Santiago variant through Carracedo del Monasterio branches off in Camponaraya and meets the route again at Campo de San Bartolo, at the southeastern entrance to Cacabelos. It allows pilgrims to see other crops alongside the vineyards in the Bierzo.
The Ruta Monasterio–Médulas runs from the Monasterio de Carracedo to Las Médulas. It is 21.14 km long; the walking time is stated as 5.5 hours.
