Palmeira between beaches, the harbor and culture

Beach and promenade

Palmeira combines a distinctive coastal landscape with harbor views and traces of history. Fine white sand characterizes Playa de A Corna; its water is clean and calm. A long beach promenade runs along the entire length of the beach. Visitors can walk along the shore there and experience the beach in its full extent. The coast and path form a continuous stretch for an extended walk directly beside the water.

Harbor with expansive views

In Palmeira’s fishing harbor, the Mirador de O Castelo stands on a large rock. The Monument to the Emigrant is located at its summit. From the viewpoint, the islands of Rúa and Arousa can be seen. The view connects the harbor with the open coastal landscape and creates a clear contrast with the straight beach promenade of Playa de A Corna. In this way, Palmeira’s maritime character can be seen both at shore level and above the harbor.

Historical traces by the water

The remains of Castelo de Palmeira are also located in Palmeira’s harbor. They are considered assets of cultural interest. At the same time, the harbor has preserved almost all of its original 18th-century structure. The surviving historic fabric and the remains of the castle are therefore located in the same historic harbor area. Here, history does not appear as a separate destination, but as part of the scene that defines the fishing harbor.

Waterfront path and small beach

The Senda Litoral de Ribeira offers a longer route. The waterfront promenade leads from Palmeira to Punta Couso and thus follows the coast beyond Palmeira. O Baluarte, a small beach behind Palmeira, forms another section. It is visited by local residents, is accessible via stairs and has a shower. The waterfront path and the small beach therefore differ in their specific form: the Senda Litoral is suited to a longer walk, while O Baluarte is a limited stretch of beach.

Three other beaches are located in the immediate vicinity of Palmeira: Playa Palmeira, Playa Azor and Playa Coroso.

Museums and viewpoints

Several museums are located in the immediate vicinity of Palmeira. These include the Museo Valle-Inclan Pobra do Caramiñal, the Fundación Museo de Artes do Gravado á Estampa Dixital and the Museo Municipal de Ribeira. The Parque Periurbano De San Roque is also nearby and is classified as a museum. The Mirador Da Rá, a viewpoint, is also located in the vicinity of Palmeira. The specific destinations therefore range from historical traces in the harbor, waterfront paths and beaches to museums and other viewpoints.
