Culture and History
The Antigo Conxunto Conventual in Santa Marta de Ortigueira covers 5,000 m². Today, the complex consists of the parish church, the municipal government offices and the Teatro da Beneficencia.
The former monastery buildings were arranged on two floors around a central cloister. In 1835, they were taken away from the Dominicans.
The Teatro da Beneficencia opened in 1850 after local residents converted former monastery storage rooms into a cultural venue. Rúa Real-Cantóns forms the historic commercial centre of Santa Marta de Ortigueira. The distinguished buildings feature granite details, wrought-iron balconies and white glass-fronted galleries.
The Muíño de Vento do Campo da Torre windmill still has two millstones: one for wheat and one for maize. It was faithfully reconstructed in 2005 and can once again operate as it did in the past.
The architectural history is therefore reflected in different forms: the former monastery complex combines ecclesiastical, municipal and cultural uses, while the cloister and two-storey layout recall its former arrangement. The theatre represents the conversion of existing spaces by the local population. In the historic commercial centre, this architectural character is visible in the granite details, wrought-iron balconies and white glass-fronted galleries.

Nature and Coast
The Bordo Litoral da Ría de Ortigueira 2 route includes birdwatching towers and designated bathing areas. Its other components include the Laguna de San Martiño, the dune strip of Playa de Morouzos-Cabalar and the island of San Vicente.
Praia de San Antonio, Praia de Cariño and Praia Sarridal are beaches in the area around Santa Marta de Ortigueira. Illa de San Vicente is an island in the immediate vicinity of Santa Marta de Ortigueira.
The coastal landscape combines observation, designated bathing areas and different forms of bodies of water and shoreline zones. In addition to the lagoon and the dune strip, the island of San Vicente and several beaches are part of the described surroundings of Santa Marta. Festivals and Cuisine
The Festival Internacional Mundo Celta de Ortigueira has been held since 1978.
The annual Entroido day for festive pastries features Orejas, Bolas Freixós and Pestiños. A public tasting then takes place in Santa Marta.
The most recent editions of the Xornadas Gastronómicas featured tastings and sales stalls offering honey produced in the region. Arts and crafts stalls and interactive workshops were also part of the programme at these editions.
The public motorhome site Área de Ortigueira on Paseo Barro Soto offers drinking water as well as facilities for disposing of grey water and black water.
