Mazaricos combines impressive waterfalls, megalithic culture, regional traditions and activities on the water. If you choose a holiday apartment in Mazaricos, you can plan your stay around your preferred holiday theme: nature experiences, family-friendly excursions, culture or regional cuisine.

Holiday apartment in Mazaricos for waterfalls and hiking trails

The Fervenza da Noveira is located on the Arcos River in the municipality of Mazaricos. From the A Noveira wastewater treatment plant, you can reach the waterfall on foot after just a few metres; an information board about the Ruta das Fervenzas de Mazaricos is located there. The Fervenza de Gosolfre plunges 15 to 20 metres into a large natural pool. The descent to it is steep and requires particular caution.

The Fervenza de Santa Locaia also consists of two waterfalls with a drop of around 6 metres. Its access route is not signposted. During the months with higher water levels, the Fervenza de Vioxo-Chacín reaches a height of more than 10 metres. The access is considered not difficult, but the path is also not signposted. The Fervenza de Vioxo-Chacín is suitable for a visit with children.

The Fervenza de Enxilde is also known as Rego da Ribeiratorta and, within the municipality of Mazaricos, flows into the Xallas River at the Santa Uxía reservoir. It can be seen from the other side of the reservoir, from the road between Ézaro and Dumbría. Access to the Fervenza de Enxilde is not signposted. When planning your visit, you can therefore take different types of waterfall experience into account: a short walk, a roadside viewpoint or a destination involving a steep descent.

Culture and traditions around your accommodation

The Dolmen de A Mina de Perxubeira is a megalithic structure that was part of a necropolis with four burial mounds. The dolmen is also classified as a “Bien de Interés Cultural” (Asset of Cultural Interest). This adds a specific site of megalithic culture to Mazaricos’s natural attractions.

Regional tradition includes the A Romaxe pilgrimage in honour of the Virgin at the Capela da Virxe do Monte. It takes place on the last Sunday in August. The Festa do Bolo do Pote is also celebrated annually in A Picota. This almost-lost traditional product was revived through the festival: Bolo do Pote consists of dough made from corn and rye flour with bacon and chorizo. The dish is made from cornflour and filled with stew.

Active days at the reservoir

Naturmaz is an active tourism centre and also an airfield at the A-Fervenza reservoir. Naturmaz offers kayaking tours as well as other water activities such as “manta raya” and water-tube rides. If you choose your holiday apartment based on your planned activities, this range of options provides a clear focus for days on the water.
