Festivals and Markets
The Festa da Filloa de Lestedo is classified as a festival of national tourist interest. The Festa da Filloa de Lestedo promotes one of Galicia’s most traditional sweet dishes. During Carnival, this sweet dish has a special significance in households and restaurants. If you want to determine when the festival takes place, the Festa is celebrated on Piñata Sunday, that is, the Sunday after Shrove Tuesday. The Festa includes a gathering of the “xenerais”, traditional Carnival figures from the Ulla area. Those wishing to note the Feira-mercado de Lestedo in their calendar will find it on the first and third Sunday of every month.
Nature and Trails
Pico Sacro is a quartz formation created by tectonic movements. The formation has a striking pyramidal shape. From the summit of Pico Sacro, extensive areas of central Galicia can be seen. The Ulla Valley in particular is part of this wide panorama. At the foot of Pico Sacro, the Vía da Prata runs westwards on its way to Santiago. Free guided tourist visits to Pico Sacro in Lestedo are available by prior reservation. Pico Sacro can be reached by private car or bus as far as the Capela de San Sebastián, located close to the summit. The final section must be completed on foot. In the hamlet of Cachosenande at the foot of Pico Sacro is the Centro de Interpretación do Pico Sacro, next to which the Ruta do Pico Sacro begins.
Centro de Interpretación do Pico Sacro
The Centro de Interpretación do Pico Sacro has a permanent exhibition entitled “O Pico Sacro, nos dominios da raíña Lupa”. Its rooms and presentations include explanatory panels and a room with a photographic exhibition. Another room contains a model and a video about the local culture and the significance of Pico Sacro.
The permanent exhibition is designed to be ongoing; the explanatory panels, photographic exhibition, model and video are distributed among the rooms mentioned. The centre therefore includes written, photographic and audiovisual displays.
Churches and Religious Heritage
Santa María de Lestedo was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style at the beginning of the 20th century. The stained-glass windows of Santa María de Lestedo date from 2005. Construction of the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes began in 1883. The building was intended to make it easier for the local population to attend religious services on market days. The Capilla de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes follows the simple, classically influenced architectural lines of 19th-century Historicism. Lestedo’s religious historical heritage includes four granite crosses. They feature depictions of Christ crucified and the Virgin Mary.
Pilgrimage Route
Pilgrim groups can stay overnight at the Pavillón Polideportivo de Lestedo by prior reservation.
