History

Guadiana del Caudillo was established between 1949 and 1951 as a colonization settlement, where 276 colonists and their families were settled. The official inauguration took place in May 1951. At that time, the settlement was administratively dependent on the Badajoz city council.

The town's creation therefore falls within a clearly defined post-war period. Only a few years lie between the beginning of the settlement and the official inauguration. This sequence of events forms part of Guadiana del Caudillo's historical background.

Culture

On Corpus Christi, cultural associations decorate the streets with altars and carpets made of flower petals, grass, sawdust, rushes and dyed salt. In July, the municipal swimming pool opens and offers swimming courses for children and adults. The Feria y Fiestas in honour of the Virgen de la Soledad takes place in mid-September.

Events

On 8 September, a cycling parade traditionally takes place as part of the Día de Extremadura, attracting hundreds of residents. During the XIV Fiesta del Caballo, a festival procession passed through the town, along Calle Mayor towards the cemetery and then along paths to the countryside. At the 2026 San Isidro celebration, participants arrived at Charca Piedehierro; after the blessing of the fields, the adult and child Romeros of the year were chosen.
