Coma-Ruga: Beach, Thermal Waters and Culture

In Coma-Ruga, the Aula Aquàtica de la Masia Blanca provides information about the Reserva Marina de la Masia Blanca through an exhibition and a documentary film. The exhibition explains the marine habitat, while the film explores the same subject in greater documentary depth. At the Aula, you can snorkel in the Reserva Marina de la Masia Blanca; no prior experience is required, you only need to be able to swim, and standard equipment is provided.

Beach

A pedestrian promenade runs along Coma-Ruga beach. Access to the bathing area of Coma-Ruga beach is facilitated by wooden and concrete walkways.

Nature

The spring of Estany and Riuet is located on Coma-Ruga beach. Its water emerges from a limestone outcrop in the Bonastre massif and follows the faults delimiting the tectonic basin of Penedès at greater depth before spontaneously reaching the surface in Coma-Ruga.

Estany and Riuet are home to, among others, carp, mullet, eels and very small crustaceans. The fish found there are not caught.

The Reserva Marina de la Masia Blanca has water depths ranging from four to sixteen metres. It lies off the beaches of El Vendrell, next to the port of Coma-Ruga. Thermal water from the spring reaches the Reserva Marina de la Masia Blanca year-round at a temperature of 19 °C.

Due to its shallow depth, the Riuet is suitable for safe balneotherapy activities for children and adults.

History

The discovery of the healing waters from the Coma-Ruga spring in the 19th century led to the construction of a luxury spa resort in the 1920s and contributed to the urbanisation of Coma-Ruga.

The Passeig Marítim de Coma-Ruga preserves several houses in the Noucentista style as well as former brandy warehouses.

The Església de Sant Ramon Nonat was built in 1956–1957 by the development company Brisamar. Inside, there is a 1962 mosaic by the sculptor Santiago Padrós.

The Museo del Tabaris conveys the shared natural, architectural and historical heritage of Coma-Ruga and El Vendrell.

A route through Coma-Ruga leads to mosaics by the artist Santiago Padrós at various locations in the maritime district. The mosaic route complements the permanent architectural and museum sites with several stops in the maritime district.

Trails

The Camins del Vendrell include a route from Coma-Ruga via Sant Salvador, the Sanatori and Fondo del Mata back to Coma-Ruga.

Another route of the Camins del Vendrell leads via the Camí de les Pedreres and then back to Coma-Ruga.

The route “Coma-ruga, un viatge en el temps” is an approximately 1.5-hour cultural walk through the streets and squares of Coma-Ruga for families and the general public.

Activities

The Club Nàutic Coma-Ruga offers courses featuring several activities for all age groups, including paddleboarding, surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, catamaran sailing and Raquero. The courses therefore include activities on the water and under sail.
