Hiking and Birdwatching

The ornithological trail from Calbinyà connects La Seu d’Urgell with Calbinyà and is a 2.9 km linear route that runs in both directions. The trail has an elevation gain of 305 m and is classified as easy.

The trail features information panels and wooden benches oriented towards views of the landscape over La Seu d’Urgell and the Urgellet plain. It passes through four habitat sectors: open areas, coniferous forest, scrub-covered heathland and deciduous forest. 40 bird species can be observed along the ornithological trail.

The route therefore connects several clearly distinguishable landscapes within a single trail. Open areas alternate with wooded and scrub-covered sections; the information panels accompany this sequence, while the wooden benches are oriented towards views over La Seu d’Urgell and the Urgellet plain. Birdwatching is explicitly linked to the connection between La Seu d’Urgell and Calbinyà.

Culture

The church of Sant Tomàs de Calbinyà is a cultural heritage site of local interest (BCIL). The Museu del Pagès in Calbinyà houses a notable collection of tools used in agricultural work in the high mountains. The church of Santa Margarida de Calbinyà is among the cultural heritage sites of local interest in Valls de Valira.

The three cultural sites show different aspects of the village and its surroundings: Sant Tomàs and Santa Margarida are churches with the status of cultural heritage sites of local interest, while the Museu del Pagès focuses on agricultural work in the high mountains. Its collection consists of tools and thus complements the religious buildings with an insight into the material world of work.

Landscape and Nature

Cap del Boix is a named peak in the surroundings of Calbinyà. Roca Major is another named peak in the same area. The named caves in the vicinity of Calbinyà include Canya de les Grailes and Cova de l’Óssa.

The ornithological trail passes through open areas, coniferous forest, scrub-covered heathland and deciduous forest. The oak forests along the route between Calbinyà and Anserall offer views of the Valira Valley.

The landscape features in the surrounding area therefore include both named peaks and named caves. Cap del Boix and Roca Major are located in the vicinity of Calbinyà; Canya de les Grailes and Cova de l’Óssa are also assigned to this area. The oak forests along the route to Anserall complement these terrain features with views of the Valira Valley.

Sant Vicenç d’Enclar is a historical site in the wider regional surroundings of Calbinyà. The named park areas Parc Infantil and Emprius de la Llosada are also located there.

The VV5 Anserall–Calbinyà–Llirt route follows winding paths through the pine forests of Calbinyà.
