Altrón: Find culture, routes, and holiday apartments
Altrón lies on the right bank of the Pamano River, shortly before its confluence with the Rialbo and near the road through the Vall d’Àssua. The cheese dairy is located 50 metres from the roundabout at the entrance to Altrón.
Culture and history
The parish church of Sant Serni in Altrón has a single-nave layout. Its appearance includes a distinctive bell tower with a pyramidal roof. In connection with the Camino Natural, a visit to Sant Serni is also expressly recommended. The Oratory of Montserrat is also known as the Oratory del Roser and is one of the places of interest in Altrón. Casa Subirà adds a historical connection to the Vall d’Àssua: in the 18th century, the house belonged to one of the valley’s most powerful families.
Altrón’s Festa Major takes place on the last Sunday in August.
Routes through the Vall d’Àssua
A secondary variant of the Camino Natural leads from Altrón to the Fuente de Libeto spring and follows a short circular route. Another route through the Vall d’Àssua leads from Rialp to Altrón. It runs near the confluence of the Altron River and the Sall River, crossing the river area before continuing via a short, steep climb to Altrón.
The route through the lower part of the Vall d’Àssua follows historic mule tracks that connect the area’s various settlements.
The routes described therefore include both a circular route ending at Fuente de Libeto and a connection from Rialp to Altrón. On the route from Rialp, the short, steep climb to Altrón follows the section near the confluence. In the lower valley, by contrast, the routes run along historic mule tracks between the various settlements.
