Sant Jaume de Llierca: Church, Festivals and Trails

Sant Jaume de Llierca is home to the Església de Sant Jaume de Llierca, a neo-Romanesque church. It was built between 1856 and 1886. The church preserves wood carvings from the 16th or 17th century. They depict Saint James the Greater, Saint Joseph and Christ in Majesty. The carvings come from the former place of worship. The construction period therefore refers to the present church building, while the carvings point to older ecclesiastical furnishings. Their three depictions make the connection between the neo-Romanesque building and the former place of worship concrete within the interior.

History

The Pujada a Santa Magdalena de Montpalau starts in Sant Jaume de Llierca and is laid out as a signposted circular route. The route crosses the Fluvià twice. The Pujada a Santa Magdalena de Montpalau is an easy route for the whole family and leads to the old fortress of Montpalau. It also passes the industrial architectural complex of the former La Brutau textile factory. Its water channel also runs along the route. In this way, the circular route connects the old fortress with the former factory complex and the water channel; natural surroundings, local history and industrial traces lie along the same signposted trail.

Trails

The Camí de Montagut starts in Sant Jaume de Llierca. It follows the old path that connected Sant Jaume de Llierca and Montagut. Predominantly rural landscapes lie along this route. The path thus preserves both the former connection between the two towns and the landscape character along this historic route.

The Camí de la Central is an easy route. It is well signposted and suitable for families with children. The trail is suitable for a relaxed walk without significant physical demands. Its signage and the described low level of physical exertion make it visible as a separate, quieter trail option among the local routes.
