Coast

S'Agaró has an architecturally distinctive coastal path, the Camí de Ronda de S'Agaró. It is designated as a cultural asset of national interest. Along the coast, the path connects Platja de Sant Pol and Sa Conca. Its route begins at Sant Pol Cove and ends at Platja del Racó. Running parallel to the Camí de Ronda is a 2 km Via-Brava open-water swimming route. The combination of the route, architecture and coastline defines the character of this section.

Cala Pedrosa is the only sandy cove along the Camí de Ronda de S'Agaró. A menhir stands on the access steps to Cala Pedrosa from within the S'Agaró development. The coastal development of S'Agaró lies on a hill characterised by narrow, pebbly coves and rocky granite terrain. Sand, pebbles and granite create different coastal forms that occur side by side within a confined area.

The beaches of Cala Rovira, Platja de Belladona, Platja de Sant Jordi and Platja de Ses Torretes are located in the vicinity of S'Agaró.

History

In 1995, the centre of S'Agaró was reclassified as a cultural asset of national interest in the category of a historic ensemble. S'Agaró is one of the first residential areas built on the Costa Brava and the only one that has preserved its stylistic unity. S'Agaró Vell is a Mediterranean garden city in the modernist style and is classified as a cultural asset of national interest. The town centre, garden city, church and loggia each illustrate different aspects of the area's architectural development.

The church of Nostra Senyora de l'Esperança de S'Agaró is part of its architectural history. It was consecrated in 1942 and designed by Francesc Folguera in the maritime Neo-Baroque style. Its interior contains murals by Joan Colom.

Senya Blanca was the first building in the S'Agaró development and was built in 1924. The Loggia de Senya Blanca was designed by Francesc Folguera and frames the gardens of Senya Blanca. It is an open, rectangular structure with a hipped roof. Its long walls consist of arcades supported by smooth columns with Ionic capitals. From 1956 to 1979, the Festival de Música de S'Agaró was held in the Loggia de Senya Blanca. The architecture and venue are therefore part of the history of the same ensemble.
