Llofriu: Old Town, Josep Pla and Trails

Culture and History

The Ruta dels americanos begins in Llofriu, passes through Palafrugell and Calella, and ends at the Santuari de Sant Sebastià.

The Ruta Josep Pla a Llofriu explores Josep Pla’s connection with the place through his literature, his autobiographical reality and the fictional depiction in El campanaret.

Its Llofriu section begins in the Old Town and ends at the cemetery with the writer’s grave.

The Old Town of Llofriu developed approximately around the church of Sant Fruitós.

The present-day church of Sant Fruitós de Llofriu was built in the mid-18th century.

The surviving houses in the Old Town date from the 17th and 18th centuries, and predominantly from the 19th century.

Can Bassa is a building constructed in 1889 in the popular neoclassical style.

The Centre Cultural Bassa-Rocas is a stop on the Ruta dels Indians in Palafrugell.

Traces of Josep Pla

Mas Pla is the ancestral agricultural home of Josep Pla’s family.

As a building, Mas Pla is a farmhouse from the 17th or 18th century that was extensively remodelled in the 19th century.

The Cementiri de Llofriu cemetery is the burial place chosen by Josep Pla.

It was inaugurated in 1895 and has a predominantly rural character and modest dimensions.

In front of Josep Pla’s grave there is a double burial niche; on its rear side, facing Mas Pla, two fragments from El quadern gris can be read.

Trails and Landscape

The Font de la Teula is located in Llofriu below the Puig de Pedra Blanca; at the spot, which has a small clearing, there are benches and a stone table.

From the Cementiri de Llofriu cemetery, the Font de la Teula can be reached on foot or by bicycle via a path that leads to the Dolmen de la Vinya Gran and Puig d’en Torroella.

The Camí de les Poues connects Llofriu with the Les Gavarres massif and leads as far as Fonteta.

It is the former route connecting Llofriu with Peralta and is 1.6 kilometres long.

The Camí vell de Sobirà connects Llofriu with the Les Gavarres massif over a distance of one kilometre.

The Camí de Llofriu a Fitor crosses the Torrent de les Murtes, passes Can Po and crosses the Riera Grossa.

It then continues along the right bank until it leaves the municipal area; its route is 1.2 kilometres long.
