At the upper end of the town stands Castell de Llers, which has been designated a cultural asset of national interest in Catalonia. The high-medieval fortified complex features a large cylindrical main tower surrounded by a trapezoidal wall.

Culture

Castell de Llers is associated with the resistance against the troops of Felip III l’Ardit during the Crusade against Catalonia in 1285. Within its fortified historic surroundings, Llers had a network of eleven castles.

Castell d’Hortal was a simple rectangular fortress adapted to the uneven terrain, with a round tower surrounded by a curtain wall. The surviving remains date from the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Porta dovellada features a bas-relief that can be seen at the Centre Social de Llersenc, the former Casal. The Església Parroquial de Sant Julià was built after the Spanish Civil War to replace an older church that had been destroyed in February 1939. The apse of the Església Parroquial de Sant Julià contains a mural by the painter Josep Ministral.

Nature

The Església de Sant Quirze d’Olmells is a restored pre-Romanesque church from the 9th century that is no longer used for worship. It is located in a forest about three kilometres southwest of Llers, between Mas Molar and Mas Oliveres. The church preserves its original vault in the apse area.

Ten dry-stone huts at Paratge del Pla Vinyers in the Garriga d’Empordà of Llers have been designated local cultural assets of special interest (BCIL). The Garriga d’Empordà is a significant Catalan cultural heritage area for dry-stone construction. In 2014, 97 dry-stone huts in the municipalities of Llers, Avinyonet de Puigventós, Vilanant, Biure and Pont de Molins were designated local cultural assets of special interest (BCIL).

The Cova l’Avenc de la Calma is 52 metres deep and has a 175-metre-long cave section. It consists of several galleries and shafts and features sinter formations as well as a notably large prismatic calcite block.

El Rissec is a tributary of the Manol, whose waters flow into the Muga.
