Franciac is characterised by cultivated land and forests. The former Romanesque Església de Sant Mateu de Franciac can be dated back to its consecration in 1079. The present-day Església de Sant Mateu de Franciac was built in the 18th century; the years 1762 and 1773 are engraved on it.

Culture

The broad bell tower of the present-day Església de Sant Mateu de Franciac has an octagonal upper section. A remnant of the former church is also preserved in the church’s north wall.

The consecration of the former church in 1079 and the construction of the present building in the 18th century mark two clearly distinguishable periods. The engraved years 1762 and 1773 belong to the present church, while the preserved section of wall points to the older building phase. The bell tower also belongs to the present-day Església de Sant Mateu de Franciac: its upper section is octagonal, clearly setting it apart from the broad lower body of the tower.

Routes

The Ruta de les Ermites passes through Franciac and includes the Església de Sant Mateu de Franciac. For specific route planning, the Gran camí a Riudellots names the parish church of Sant Mateu de Franciac as its destination after two kilometres.

The Camí de Sant Jaume also adds a new route connection in Franciac. The Creu de la mà marks the division between the coastal and inland routes along the sea and mountain routes.

The routes are therefore associated with different names and geographical relationships. While the parish church of Sant Mateu de Franciac is reached after two kilometres on the route to Riudellots, the Creu de la mà describes a division between coastal and inland routes.

Activities

Pitch & Putt Franciac has a practice area, a putting green and an approach area. There is also a rental service for the equipment required for pitch and putt.

The facilities therefore include the practice area, the putting green and the approach area. The rental service complements these three facilities with the equipment required for pitch and putt.

Festivals

The Festa Major of Franciac takes place on the third weekend of September. This date can be included in visit planning as a fixed September weekend. An Arrossada was also organised in Franciac by the Associació de Veïns de Franciac.

The Festa Major is thus scheduled for the third weekend of September. The Arrossada is another event associated with Franciac and the Associació de Veïns de Franciac.

In this way, Franciac combines cultivated land and forests with a church whose present building and earlier Romanesque phase carry different historical details. Added to this are the named route connections, the clearly structured pitch-and-putt facilities and the Festa Major on the third weekend of September.
