The historic centre of Cervià de Ter preserves numerous remains from the Middle Ages and the early modern period.

Culture

In the historic centre, the medieval wall incorporates the Torre de les Hores. From Cervià de Ter Castle, the foundations of the keep, sections of the curtain wall and the remains of several rooms have been preserved.

The Santa Maria de Cervià monastery was founded in 1053 by the local landowners Silvi Llobet and Adelaida. It has three apses decorated with Romanesque paintings. The monastery also has a cloister.

Sant Cristòfol de Raset was rebuilt in the 17th century; the building features pointed vault ribs or arches in the Gothic style. The Museu Raset is located in a manor house whose oldest part dates from the 13th century and whose architecture displays Gothic and Renaissance features. In 1939, Antonio Machado found refuge in this manor house during his journey into exile.

West of Cervià de Ter, on the other side of the Arner stream, lies Can Japic, a two-storey farmhouse also known as Can Piernau. The building has Renaissance-style windows and a large round-arched portal bearing the date 1564. Can Santamaria near Raset preserves defensive remains with loopholes and 16th-century herringbone masonry.

The old washhouses of Cervià de Ter are among the sights you should visit.

Past

The Roman villa of La Quintana, near the monastery of Cervià de Ter, was in operation from the 1st century BC to the 5th century AD; its heyday was between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD. At the summit of the Serra d'en Martina stands the Dolmen de la Castellana, a megalithic monument made up of seven stone slabs and the oldest historical evidence of Cervià de Ter.

Landscape

The banks of the Ter south of Cervià de Ter are suitable for walking and cycling. Near Cervià de Ter, they provide a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife, especially birds.

The route per les Deveses de Cervià passes through tree plantations to the Ter River and allows visitors to experience the distinctive landscape and its great biodiversity. It begins in front of the Santa Maria de Cervià monastery.

Routes

The Ruta del Ter crosses the Deveses of Sant Jordi Desvalls and Cervià de Ter before continuing to the Santa Maria monastery, the historic centre and Cervià de Ter Castle. The Ruta pel Cervià Forestal explores the wooded part of the municipality and leads to a Roman bridge that was part of the ancient Via Augusta.

The route a la Font d'en Baró i a Raset is a short excursion to the traditional picnic area of Font d'en Baró in Cervià de Ter. The Camí de Sant Jaume, one of the best-known pilgrimage routes in the world, passes through Cervià de Ter, among other places, on its 53-kilometre section through Gironès.
