Bolvir: History, Trails and Panoramic Views over Cerdanya

At the Espai Ceretània, the permanent exhibition explains the various phases of the archaeological site using information panels and display cases containing recovered objects. This places the chronological context and preserved finds side by side, giving the presentation an informative, factual character.

Immersive virtual-reality goggles enable visitors there to travel back to the era when Hannibal crossed this area with his army and famous elephants. The digital presentation complements the archaeological interpretation with a historical scene without losing its connection to the site.

Culture

The parish church of Santa Cecília preserves a Gothic altarpiece from the 15th century, originally from the church of Nostra Senyora de l’Esperança. Santa Cecília de Bolvir is a single-nave Romanesque church with a semicircular apse.

The present-day church of Sant Climent de Talltorta was built in 1667 as a rectangular single-nave building with three side chapels. The 18th-century murals of Sant Climent de Talltorta are classified as cultural heritage of national interest.

The Capilla de la Esperanza de Bolvir was built in 1347 and has a single-nave body, a barrel vault and a bell gable. A Saint John’s gathering is held at Nostra Senyora del Remei on 24 June. Nostra Senyora del Remei stands on a promontory with panoramic views over Cerdanya.

The religious buildings therefore combine different architectural forms, periods of construction and features. From the Romanesque church interior and the rectangular building with side chapels to the nave with a barrel vault, architectural details are visible at each location.
