Culture

On 8 September, Puentenansa celebrates its local festival in honour of the Virgen de La Salud. In the centre of Puentenansa stands the Capilla del Corazón de Jesús, built during the Baroque period and restored in 1981. Its single-nave layout leads to a straight chancel covered by a ribbed vault. The façade has a simple bell gable with a sound opening, balls at the corners and pilasters; the round-arched doorway is decorated with botanical motifs.

The ruins of a former 18th-century manor house have also been preserved in Puentenansa. The terraced houses retain the coats of arms of Celis and Bedoya. Routes

Puentenansa is considered a historic crossroads connecting the coast with the Castilian hinterland and the route to Castile. At the same time, Puentenansa lies on an east-west transport axis between Cabezón de la Sal, the Valle de Cabuérniga and Carmona, and Lamasón, Peñarrubia and Liébana. Puentenansa also connects the Valle de Cabuérniga and the Valle de Lamasón with Tudanca and Polaciones.

The historic route from San Vicente de la Barquera to Toledo includes a 12.5 km stage between Puentenansa and Sarceda. At a bridge in Puentenansa, the CA-181 road crosses the Quivierda River. It was built towards the end of the 19th century to replace an older wooden bridge.

Nature

A circular route begins at the Rioseco recreation area, about 1 km from the village of Puentenansa, and follows part of the old route between Rozadío and Puentenansa. At the Ermita del Llano, the circular route reaches its highest point at 310 m; there is a spring and a recreation area there.

The return route runs closer to the river and is almost flat; along the way, it passes the Venta de Villar, a testament to the historic use of the route.

Local life

Puentenansa holds livestock markets twice a year: on the second Saturday in March and on the third date in December. A restaurant serves homemade dishes and desserts as well as Tudanca beef from its own herd.
