Culture and City History

The present-day Ayuntamiento de Reinosa was inaugurated in 1935 in the neoclassical style, with an ashlar-stone façade. La Casona, also known as Casa de la Niña de Oro, is a neoclassical building constructed in 1778 and a Bien de Interés Cultural. Casa de Pano, also known as Casa del Marqués de Cilleruelo, is an 18th-century Renaissance mansion on Calle Mayor. The Fuente La Aurora, one of the landmarks of the municipality of Reinosa, is also located there.

The Teatro Principal is owned by the Ayuntamiento de Reinosa, which currently organises musical, theatrical and film events there. Its exterior façade retains original features, including a portico with five arches. Since 1999, a park in Reinosa has been home to the Museo al aire libre de Actividades Tradicionales de la Comarca de Campoo, which provides information about the region’s traditional economic activities. The San Sebastián festival includes the Concurso de Ollas Ferroviarias cooking competition, in which dishes made from potatoes and beef are prepared; the festival is recognised as a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Regional. The Mercado Campurriano is an established market where producers and artisans from Campoo offer cheese, cured meats, honey, confectionery and preserves. Pantortilla is a puff pastry typical of Reinosa, which can be sampled beneath the arcades of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento.

River Areas and Green Spaces

The Parque de los Obeso runs along the Ebro, which flows through Reinosa. At the Paseo del Quintanal, a footbridge crosses the river and leads to the Finca de los Obeso. A wetland at the transition between Reinosa’s urban and rural areas has been restored and features a more diverse natural environment with vegetation consisting predominantly of poplars.

A garden laid out in Reinosa at the end of the 19th century is lined with rows of lush horse chestnut trees; its paths lead to fountains. A park on the Ebro preserves part of its original 19th-century tree planting. The original site was initially located on the right bank of the river and was later expanded to the left bank. A park in Reinosa also has a remarkable collection of centuries-old trees; the springs in the surrounding area gave it its name.
