Queveda has a long history: the first written mention of the place, “in villa Quepeta”, dates from 1006. Queveda preserves religious and civil architectural monuments from different periods of construction.

Culture and History

Queveda preserves religious and civil architectural monuments of interest. Particularly striking is the Torre de Beltrán de la Cueva, a fortress built from dressed stone blocks in the late 15th or early 16th century. The tower is considered the most representative building of Queveda’s civil architecture and was declared a National Monument and a Bien de Interés Cultural in 1981.

The parish church of San Andrés in Queveda was built in 1927 over an earlier medieval church. Both buildings refer to different chapters in the history of religious architecture.

In Mijares stands the Palacio de la familia Peredo, also known as the Palacio de Mijares, which has been protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural since 1995.

Hiking and Festivals

A guided hiking route is called “Queveda–Mijares–Queveda” and is approximately 5 km long. It is one of the concluding hiking routes around Santillana del Mar. The celebrations lasted four days and ended on 5 August with a sung mass, refreshments and a large romería.
