Culture and history

The route leads to two small, restored mills that once supplied Cucayo. The Invernales de Ranes are buildings that served as shelters for livestock and hay barns during the transhumance operated from the village. A small humilladero at the Collada served as a resting and prayer place for passing hikers.

Cucayo is first mentioned in a document from 1188 in the Cartulario de Piasca. A resolution dated 25 February 1986 initiated the procedure to classify Dobres, together with the hamlet of Cucayo in the municipality of Vega de Liébana, as a historic site of cultural interest.

The San Esteban building in Cucayo has a single nave and three sections covered by a vault with eight caps. It preserves an 18th-century sculpture and two 19th-century paintings.
