Coast and sea

In the center of Puerto de Santiago, Playa de La Arena features black sand surrounded by rock formations. Snorkeling at Playa de La Arena offers the opportunity to discover the coast’s marine biodiversity. The beach has ramps, boardwalks, showers, toilets, adapted sun loungers and amphibious chairs.

Playa Puerto de Santiago is located next to the fishing pier of Puerto de Santiago. The Isla Cangrejo natural pool complex is in the town center and lies on the Atlantic coast in a location protected from waves. At sunset, it offers views of the horizon beneath a warmly colored sky. At the same time, visitors are warned about strong currents, slippery rocks, rough seas and the absence of lifeguard supervision at the pool complex.

Zona de Las Bajas is also located in the town center. Along its coast, shaped by volcanic forces, natural pools form and invite visitors to experience the sea. From Zona de Las Bajas, there are views toward the neighboring island of La Gomera, which are particularly impressive at sunset.

Culture and history

Using display panels, photographs and fishing-related objects, Museo El Pescador conveys what traditional life was like for fishermen and female fish vendors in Puerto de Santiago. The museum’s sculptural façade, created by Bernard Romain, symbolizes the relationship between the sea, fishing and life on the coast. Museo El Pescador is located near the public square on Avenida Quinto Centenario.

Every summer, Puerto de Santiago celebrates the Fiestas del Carmen in honor of the Virgen del Carmen. The festivities combine maritime tradition and folk culture against the backdrop of the Atlantic. They include a procession, a boat carrying the statue of the Virgen del Carmen and fireworks.

Paths and viewpoints

The TF-PR 65 short-distance hiking trail leads from Santiago del Teide to Puerto de Santiago. The Paseo de La Hondura on the coast of Santiago del Teide is an accessible coastal path with views of the Atlantic and the Acantilados de Los Gigantes. Benches invite visitors to linger along the coast, including at sunset, and enjoy the scenery. The Paseo de La Hondura is suitable for strollers, wheelchairs and people with reduced mobility.

In the wider surroundings of Puerto de Santiago lies the Mirador de Archipenque on the TF-454 road, which connects Tamaimo with Puerto de Santiago. There is a small car park nearby; the viewpoint can be reached by car and then on foot. From there, you can see the coastal town of Puerto de Santiago, the marina of Acantilados de Los Gigantes and, in clear weather, La Gomera and La Palma.
