Beach and Coast

At Playa Morro Jable beach, the water is calm during most of the year, while the light-coloured sand ranges in tone from yellow to white. Anyone considering a holiday apartment in Morro Del Jable can treat the beach, nature, trails and history as separate focal points when making personal plans.

Natural Area

The Sitio de Interés Científico de la Playa del Matorral is located along the coastal section east of the town of Morro Jable, at the southeastern tip of the Jandía Peninsula on the island of Fuerteventura, and covers 115.6 hectares. The Playa del Matorral wetland is the only wetland in the Canary Islands included in the international Ramsar network of wetlands of international importance. Migratory birds such as the little egret (Egretta garzetta) and breeding birds such as the Fuerteventura stonechat (Saxicola dacotiae) are found in this area. The Faro de Morro Jable stands beside the beach and the Saladar.

Beach and Facilities

For personal planning, you can consider the beach as a separate topic alongside the natural area. Playa Morro Jable has a lifeguard and watchtower, an adapted bathing area and a low-barrier access path with a ramp. There is also a beach bar, adapted showers and foot-washing areas, amphibious chairs, shaded areas and a hammock service.

Trails

For personal trail planning, the starting point, colour-coded route designation, surface and course can be considered separate points of orientation. Morro Jable is the starting point for the green route to Cofete and the black route to the Faro de Jandía. The green route to Cofete begins at Plaza de los Pescadores. The black route runs parallel to the green route as far as Cofete and then continues along the Punta de Jandía road to the Faro de Jandía. A route from Morro Jable to Cofete passes through sandy sections, dirt tracks and several more technically demanding volcanic sections. After its highest point, the route descends in hairpin bends to Playa de Cofete and then continues along the beach towards La Pared.

Culture and History

Cultural topics and nature can be considered separately when planning your day. Historically, the coastal settlement of Morro Jable combined fishing with lime production and salt pans; these exported salt to Tenerife and Gran Canaria until 1950. The Senda de los Cetáceos is an open-air maritime museum with six natural sculptures. One sculpture from the Senda de los Cetáceos is located in the Saladar de Jandía beside Morro Jable beach. The Centro de Recuperación y Conservación de Tortugas Marinas is located in the port of Morro Jable.
