Maritime Culture in Pasai San Pedro

Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria is located at Ondartxo ibilbidea 1 in Pasai San Pedro, Pasaia (Gipuzkoa). The Faktoria lies on the route to the Puntas de San Pedro. At the Albaola shipyard museum, the tuna boat Ozentziyo can be seen together with its ongoing restoration.

A visit to the Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria includes an exhibition about Basque whalers and a traditional boatbuilding workshop, as well as the Ozentziyo restoration area and a traditional forge. You can watch the boatbuilders at work: the techniques, tools and materials used in the restoration of historically valuable wooden boats are also on display. The educational workshops at the Albaola Itsas Kultur Faktoria are adapted to different levels.

Historical Traces and Maritime Heritage

The Casa natal de Blas de Lezo is located in the historic centre of Pasai San Pedro. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a well-preserved family coat of arms. Blas de Lezo, admiral and general of the Armada, was born in 1689 in Pasaia (Gipuzkoa).

A guided tour based on novels begins next to the monument to Blas de Lezo in Pasai San Pedro. It follows the Bay of Pasaia to the Puntas de San Pedro, a viewpoint overlooking the Cantabrian Sea.

MATER is a traditional Cantabrian tuna boat, classically built from wood. After its time in fishing service, the vessel was established as a floating museum dedicated to artisanal fishing and the importance of protecting the marine environment.

The descendants of the Ferrer family built a mausoleum chapel in 1865 for Joaquín María Ferrer and his family. In connection with work on the fishing quay, the chapel was moved stone by stone in 1952 from the parish church to the town cemetery.

Coastal Paths and Boat Connections

The Ruta Talaia begins at the San Pedro landing stage and leads to the harbour entrance, the Faro de Senokozuloa and onward to the Faro de La Plata. Behind the church of San Pedro, an ascent along the Camino de Santiago leads to the Faro de la Plata.

The route is approximately 8 km long and forms part of the Talaia coastal path, which runs between Bidart and Donostia-San Sebastián. After crossing the bay by boat from Pasai Donibane to Pasai San Pedro, the Camino de la Costa continues.

A regular motorboat service with a distinctive green boat connects the landing stages of Pasai San Pedro and Pasai Donibane.
