The Camino Natural Vía Verde Montes de Hierro begins in the El Hoyo district of Sopuerta, following the route of a former railway line. The Vía Verde Montes de Hierro runs from Traslaviña to Pobeña, passing through Sopuerta. The route is intended for walkers, skaters and cyclists. People with reduced mobility can also use the Vía Verde. The route therefore combines a historic alignment with a range of present-day uses. The named places Traslaviña, Sopuerta and Pobeña mark a route that extends beyond the boundaries of the El Hoyo district. The former railway line remains a characteristic feature of the route, while walking, skating and cycling define its current use.

Culture and History

The Museo de Las Encartaciones is located in a historic building in the Abellaneda district of Sopuerta. This building is the former Casa de Juntas de Abellaneda. The museum comprises ten exhibition halls covering the history of the comarca. The period covered ranges from prehistory to the 19th century. A visit to the museum therefore takes visitors through a long chronological sequence, beginning with the earliest traces of prehistory and continuing through to the 19th century. The Iglesia San Martín has an interior of particular artistic significance. This significance lies especially in the nave and the altarpieces. The two Hornos retain their current classification as artistic monuments, while the Iglesia San Martín is defined by its nave and altarpieces.
