Discover Mercadillo: Culture, Trails and Mountains
Culture and History
The Ferrería-molino de Llantada was established in the Mercadillo district, very close to the Santa María Church. It is believed to have been built at the end of the 15th century. The complex and the church are therefore among the historic buildings located close to one another in the district.
The hydraulic infrastructure of the Ferrería-molino de Llantada includes a short section of channel, the Antepara and the large water tunnel. These three surviving components document different elements of the former complex, from the channel and the Antepara to the large water tunnel.
The Puente de Llantada was built around the 15th century to serve the adjoining Ferrería, located in the Mercadillo district. Its roadway is just over 2 metres wide and paved with river stones. The Puente de Llantada was most recently rebuilt in 1871. The structure thus combines its original function with a later reconstruction.
Santa María de Mercadillo underwent structural alterations in the 18th century. As a result, the Ferrería, bridge and church are associated with different historic construction tasks and dates in the Mercadillo district.
Trails through Sopuerta
Route ENK13 connects the centre of Mercadillo with the El Castaño district in the municipality of Sopuerta. It partly follows the Vía Verde Montes de Hierro. Its route description therefore specifies both the starting point in the town centre and the further destination area in the district.
Route ENK14 crosses the Kolitza River and passes through La Sota. From Las Ribas, it can be extended to El Arenao via a connection with ENK15 and ENK17. The route information therefore brings together the river crossing, the place it passes through and the named connecting routes.
Mountains and Beach in the Surrounding Area
