Sant Climent combines a clearly recognisable village character with lively traditions and traces of Menorca’s history. The chapel built in honour of Sant Climent gave the village its name. Today’s Sant Climent church is a neo-Gothic building with three naves separated by columns with lobed cross-sections. The layout of the village is also closely connected to the religious building: the village plan created in 1817 was developed around the church, in front of which there is a spacious square.
Culture and History
The cemetery of Sant Climent is part of the historic village character. It was inaugurated on 31 March 1902; its façade, built in 1905, was designed by the municipal architect Francesc Femenías. The cemetery is open to the public every day. Opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in summer. The municipality may adjust these times. The archaeological settlement of Mussuptà is also located in the vicinity of Sant Climent.
Festivals and Community
The life of the local community in Sant Climent shapes the events calendar. The patron saint festivities take place every year, with the main celebrations held in August. Traditional celebrations include a “Colcada” through the village streets, “Completes” in the church of Sant Climent and, afterwards, a traditional “Jaleo” in Sant Climent’s square. On the 17th, after Mass and the procession, the animals are blessed in Es Pla de Sant Climent. A Torrada also takes place in Sant Climent, featuring a curious pair of demons.
Landscape and Trails
The rural landscape around Talatí de Dalt is vibrant and well preserved. It represents Menorca’s traditional agroforestry mosaic character and thus stands for a cultural landscape in which agricultural and wooded elements are interconnected. The Menorca Talayotica Route runs along the Camí Vell de Sant Climent. Its length is just over 8 kilometres for the round trip.
Access
Talatí de Dalt cannot be reached by public transport. To get to Cala Binidalí, first follow the road towards Cala en Porter from Maó or Ciutadella. Then continue by following the signs to Sant Climent; afterwards, take the turn-off towards Binibéquer and descend to the beach via a somewhat steep path.
