Estellencs: Trails, history and local delights

Hiking trails between the town centre and the GR221

The Baixada a la mar route is a short circular walk from the town centre to Cala Estellencs. It is 3,200 metres long, is classified as easy and is listed as taking 50 minutes. This makes it a practical option if you would rather focus on a manageable walk than a long-distance hiking stage. Access to Cala Estellencs is signposted and is via a paved ramp with flattened steps. According to the tourist description, the beach at the cala is particularly suitable for diving.

The Camí Reial takes a different route: it starts near Estellencs’s public washing places and heads towards Puigpunyent. At Coll d’Estellencs, the trail reaches an altitude of 652 metres. If you are planning a longer hike, the third stage of the Ruta de Pedra en Sec GR221 also starts in Estellencs and leads to Esporles. The connecting route starts in the town centre and follows the GR221 parallel to the road to Andratx as far as kilometre marker 97. These route descriptions offer different points of reference for planning your day, without specifying walking times for the routes.

The Sa Coma d’en Vidal accommodation can also be reached via the GR221 through Estellencs. It is located on a 56-hectare public estate and offers 24 overnight places. Reservations are required through the refugios unit of the Consell de Mallorca’s Department of the Environment. Local history and art in the town centre

The Tem Alemany watchtower stands in the town centre and dates from the 16th century. The bell tower of the Church of San Juan Bautista also preserves a former defensive tower from this period. The church itself was built in the 17th century and altered during an extension in the 19th century. This architectural history spans several centuries, while still allowing you to focus on the town’s present-day character.

Metal sculptures by the Burgos-born artist Mariano Navares (Miranda de Ebro, 1959), who lives in Estellencs, stand at prominent points in the town centre. The Fira Gastronómica de Tardor is an event in honour of Mateu Vidal and local gastronomy; it takes place on the first Saturday in October. Getting there and finding your way

The municipality of Estellencs can be reached by public bus. For travel by car, Estellencs has four designated car parks.
