Caves and beach on the coast
The Coves d’Artà are located on the coast of Canyamel, in the cliff face of Cap Vermell. Steep hills surround them and rise above the sea. Guided tours last about 40 minutes. Canyamel Beach is 290 metres long. There is a lifeguard service and water sports facilities; these may vary by season. This means planning a beach day differs from planning a guided cave tour. The Canyamel wetland
The Canyamel wetland is designated a Site of Community Importance and is part of the European Union’s Natura 2000 network. This gives the natural area its own focus alongside the beach and caves. At the interpretation centre, images and information introduce visitors to the local flora and fauna; there is also an environmental education trail. Visitors can explore nature topics in different ways: through information about plants and animals, or along a trail that covers these subjects.
Routes with different itineraries
One route starts at els pins de ses Vegues in Canyamel, next to the beach, and follows the seafront promenade towards the wetland by the Torrent de Canyamel. The starting point and direction are particularly clear here: from the area beside the beach, follow the promenade towards the wetland.
Route R.7 also starts at Canyamel Beach, but leads to Artà. Along the way, it passes the 13th-century Torre de Canyamel. The R.7 runs through pine forests; narrow sections with loose stones can challenge mountain bikers. The routes therefore follow different itineraries: one follows the promenade towards the wetland, while the other leads to Artà and passes the historic tower. Surface and access conditions may change; check them before setting out.
