Culture and History

The Iglesia de San Antolín de Ibias originated from a monastery dedicated to San Antolín that was documented in 1076; its present structure dates from the early 13th century. The rectangular single-nave body has a barrel vault, while the semicircular apse has a quarter-sphere vault. The church preserves significant medieval architectural elements and displays Proto-Gothic features, including portals and windows, as well as an image of the patron saint above the portal of the main façade.

In the presbytery, the Iglesia de San Antolín preserves 16th-century murals with religious scenes, including the Last Supper and the Stations of the Cross. It is open to the public; prior contact is recommended for information about opening hours and access.

The Aula de la Naturaleza y Centro Interpretación de la Palloza de Ibias is located in San Antolín (Ibias) and is associated with the Parque Natural de las Fuentes del Narcea, Degaña e Ibias. It is open to the general public and has a permanent exhibition about Ibias.
