Discover Quejo: Nature, Culture and Holiday Apartments

The area around Quejo is shaped by the Nora River basin, historic paths and traditional rural architecture. A section of the Nora River basin, declared a natural monument in 2003, stretches from the village of San Pedro de Nora to its confluence with the Nalón at the Priañes reservoir. It serves as an exceptional refuge for numerous migratory bird species. The Way of St. James runs through the municipality of Las Regueras; in the area around Quejo, the Ruta de los Lanceros partially shares its route.

Nature and Paths

In the municipality of Las Regueras, the El Pedreru–San Pedro de Nora Greenway runs for just over four kilometres. The easy-to-walk route is suitable for hiking and cycling and has three rest areas. The route adds another section in the area around Quejo to the route connections of the Way of St. James and the Ruta de los Lanceros.

The three routes represent different features: the Greenway combines its designated uses with rest opportunities, while the Way of St. James and the Ruta de los Lanceros are defined by their respective routes. This allows the length, activity, rest areas and route of each path to be considered separately when planning.

The rural landscape of Las Regueras also preserves numerous hórreos and paneras. Some of these traditional structures are more than a hundred years old and integrated into the landscape. Together with the river basin and the historic routes, they create an environment where nature and regional architectural forms stand directly alongside one another.

Culture and History

The pre-Romanesque church of San Pedro de Nora stands in the area around Quejo. It was built in the first half of the 9th century and has a basilica plan with three naves and three rectangular apses.

In the municipality of Las Regueras, the Roman Baths of Valduno date from the 1st century AD. The site can be viewed from the outside at any time and complements the pre-Romanesque church with a significantly older historical reference point. Those interested in the history of the area can thus find different historical periods in the villages around Quejo.

On 10 November 2025, route 054-003 between Puente Gallegos and CP Príncipe de Asturias served the Quexu–Escamplero stop on both the outward and return journeys.

Regional Cuisine

El Quexu-Casa Florina in Quexo took part in the Jornadas del Pote Asturianu y del Pitu de Caleya, held in Las Regueras for more than 20 years.

In November 2024, Casa Florina in Quexu had been closed for two years.
