Senda del Oso leads to Proaza through the Peñas Juntas gorge, between limestone walls and the Trubia River. The route follows the track of a former mining railway and is a well-signposted path with a low level of difficulty that can be walked or cycled.

For planning your trip, landscape, mode of transport and the stated level of difficulty can be considered as separate aspects. These elements offer a practical distinction between focusing on the route and landscape and engaging with natural or cultural topics.

Nature

From Proaza, both bear enclosures can be reached via Senda del Oso on foot or by bicycle. The first bear enclosure at Monte Fernanchín covers more than four hectares; Molina currently lives there.

Casa del Oso in Proaza has a permanent exhibition on the Cantabrian brown bear. Casa del Oso is also the official headquarters of the Fundación Oso de Asturias.

The Fundación Oso de Asturias offers groups guided environmental education activities by prior arrangement.

When preparing your trip, you can organise the nature-related topics by type of activity: route and cycling, bear enclosures, exhibition, and guided environmental education for groups. The order remains open and can be tailored to your own interests.

Culture

On the banks of the Payónes River stands the Torre de Proaza, a circular defensive tower and the only visible remnant of a fortified complex.

The Palacio del Campo, also known as Palacio de González Tuñón, is an 18th-century palace.

Within the municipality of Proaza, Banduxu preserves a medieval architectural ensemble. In 2009, Banduxu was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural).

The cultural topics can be viewed in different ways: as individual buildings, as a historic ensemble, or as architecture with murals. For your planning, you can consider the points individually or combine them with the focus on nature and routes.
