Triongo lies on the banks of the Sella River and combines a distinct riverside landscape with traces of a long local history. The present-day Church of San Vicente de Triongo appears in a historical record from the year 834 under the name Santa Eulalia y San Vicente de Triunico. Thus, Triongo brings together a documented historical tradition, paths through the landscape and experiences by the river. The different highlights can be viewed as distinct impressions of the village.

Nature

A hiking route begins in the village of Triongo. The route reaches Pico Moro at an altitude of 549 metres; from the summit, the 360-degree view extends from the Picos de Europa to the coast of the Cantabrian Sea. The path therefore combines a starting point in the village with a clearly named summit destination and a view encompassing two distinctly different landscape areas. For planning a day out, the route, elevation objective and distant panorama are the key elements, connected yet distinguishable.

Culture and History

The Palacio de Soto is located in Triongo and is one of the interesting buildings along Route 2 through the Vega del Sella. This route runs from Caño to Peruyes through the Vega del Sella and connects villages on the Sella River with several interesting buildings. Its description therefore highlights not only a single building, but also the route between Caño and Peruyes and the connection between villages and buildings.

The local history is also specific: Los Ramos was celebrated in Triongo between 1904 and 1920. Historically, pilgrims travelled from Ribadesella to Arriondas via Margolles and Triongo. A pilgrimage to San Vicente was celebrated in Triongo. The historical information thus ranges from a celebration within a defined period and a traditional route connection to a pilgrimage associated with San Vicente.

Experiences on the Sella

On the canoe descent of the Sella, you reach Triongo 4.5 km after starting in Arriondas. In the section near Triongo, there is a shallow rapid with little water. The first suspension bridge after the rapids near Triongo is the Pasarela de Fuentes. The key reference points for understanding this section are therefore the starting point in Arriondas, the stated distance, the character of the rapid and the named structure. Unlike the hiking route with its village starting point and summit destination, the focus here is on the river section and its specific features.
