Noreña: Architectural Heritage and Asturian Festival Traditions
The Iglesia de Santa María de Noreña was built on the site of an earlier Romanesque church; construction of the present church began in the final third of the 16th century. Its interior has three naves of equal height, separated by large arcades and covered with a variety of ribbed vaults.

Culture
The main altarpiece of the Iglesia de Santa María de Noreña is predominantly Renaissance in style and displays some Mannerist elements. In the Capilla de la Soledad / Ecce-Homo, a barrel vault and a portico on the main façade come together. Its Baroque altarpiece contains an Ecce-Homo image by the Sevillian sculptor Gregorio Galán del Amo.
The Capilla de la Soledad / Ecce-Homo was rebuilt in 1903 after being destroyed by fire in 1901 and was redesigned in 1953 following the model of Asturian rural chapels.
History
The Palacio del Rebollín was built in several phases between the 16th and 18th centuries. Its main façade displays the coats of arms of the Argüelles and Argüelles-Quirós families. The Torre del Reloj historically served as a public clock, a place for summoning residents, and a prison.
The Quiosco de la Música features an octagonal iron-and-wood structure, a dome with zinc shingles, and floral and musical ornamentation. It was designed in 1892, after Noreña’s municipal band was founded in 1891.
The Fábrica La Luz is an emblematic building dating from 1913 and was the first factory in Noreña to use modern machinery in the production of sausage products. At the same time, it was the first factory in the world to can Asturian fabada.
Cuisine
The Fiesta del Picadillo y el Sabadiego takes place every spring at the same time as San Marcos and is recognised as a festival of tourist interest by the Principality of Asturias. During the Fiesta de San Marcos, local restaurateurs offer free tastings of the specialities in question.
Sabadiego is a sausage made from blood, lean meat, and onions; the Orden del Sabadiego supports the gastronomic festivals centred around this product. The gastronomic event dedicated to callos has been held for more than 40 years and attracts thousands of visitors. At a festival event in Noreña, pork is distributed free of charge to residents and visitors.
