Lamuño: Coastal Route, Pine Forest and Culture

The Lamuño–Oleiros–Concha de Artedo route combines sea, forest and culture and has no steep climbs. It is designed as a circular route, is 10.1 kilometres long and is classified as easy. The estimated duration is three to five hours. The length, difficulty level and time frame provide different points of reference for planning your own day, without reducing the character of the route to a single landscape. Nature

Along its course, the route leads to Playa de la Concha de Artedo, whose length is given as 600 metres. Beyond Playa de la Concha de Artedo, the route crosses a wetland via a wooden footbridge. This wetland is considered the route’s most important ecological asset. Playa de Oleiros is a shell-shaped cove surrounded by cliffs and pine forests. It lies between Lamuño and Salamir. Playa de Oleiros has neither lifeguards nor sea rescue services and has no facilities. The combination of wetland, cove, cliffs and pine forest reveals a variety of landscapes along the coastal route.

Geographical Setting

Monte Valsera is a seaside recreational area in Lamuño. It is located on a cliff top beside a large pine forest and offers forest paths with sea views. Monte Valsera also provides access to hiking trails, a car park, a fountain, tables, barbecue areas and a children’s area. From the Monte Valsera recreational area, a path leads downhill through a pine trail to Playa de Oleiros in about 20 minutes.

Culture

In the upper part of the village of Mumayor, the route meets the Camino de Santiago. The Lamuño–Oleiros–La Concha route recommends a stop at the Ermita del Rosario. The Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la China is an 18th-century private chapel in Lamuño, founded by the wealthy emigrant Domingo Fernández Cantera, who had returned from America. Next to the Capilla de Nuestra Señora de la China stands a panera, a traditional granary dating from 1772. The chapel can currently be visited only on the third Sunday in August during the local festivities held in its honour.
