Perlunes is a Vaqueiro village. The Ruta Etnográfica del Agua begins in the lower part of the village centre; a group of Olleras is located in the same area. The upper part of Perlunes offers panoramic views of the forests and slopes south of the village centre. In Perlunes, cultural sites, paths and landscape can be considered as three clearly distinct points of interest.

Culture

The Olleras de Perlunes are designated as a site of cultural interest. In Perlunes, the arrival of dawn is celebrated with the traditional Vaqueiro dance “careao”. For your personal planning, culture can be treated as a separate focus alongside hiking routes and the natural environment. You can consider cultural aspects independently of your later choice of route.

Hiking

The local S.L. 2 hiking trail, the “Ruta Etnográfica del agua”, runs through Perlunes. A hiking route leads from Pola de Somiedo to Perlunes via the road connecting the two places. The road used for the hike between Pola de Somiedo, Aguino and Perlunes is considered lightly trafficked. The hiking route between Pola de Somiedo, Aguino and Perlunes offers views from the Collada de Aguino of both the Somiedo valley and the peaks around Aguino. Another path leads from the settlement of Cores via Collado Carbainéu and approaches Perlunes. The different starting points and types of path can be distinguished for planning purposes by starting point, route and terrain feature. Comparing routes by starting point and course can be useful if you want to set different priorities for different days.

Landscape

The Arroyo Aguino flows through Perlunes and is a tributary of the Somiedo River. Perlunes lies at the foot of the Sierra de Perlunes. Somiedo Natural Park was declared a biosphere reserve in 2000 and extends across five valleys: Saliencia, Valle del Lago, Puerto and Pola de Somiedo, Perlunes, and Pigüeña. For geographical orientation, you can think from the individual stream through the terrain around the village to the park’s larger natural area. This spatial gradation helps when comparing the village setting with the regional context without equating the two levels. When planning, you can consciously distinguish between the spatial levels and avoid equating the village with the entire natural park.

When comparing a holiday apartment in Perlunes, you can place the travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions from the respective listing pages side by side. Add your preferred focus—culture, hiking or landscape—to the comparison and keep these criteria separate for your personal decision.
