Discover Íllora: Church, Thermal Baths and Trails
Íllora combines historic buildings, archaeological traces, landscapes and recurring music events. Between the Renaissance church, former granary, Roman thermal complex, viewpoint and signposted circular trail, there are different ways to explore the surrounding area.
Culture and History
The Iglesia de la Encarnación in Íllora was built from 1541 onwards. The construction of the main chapel and tower was supervised by Diego de Siloé. The church is predominantly designed in the Renaissance style, while also showing Gothic influences. Since 20 March 1980, it has been listed in the Registro General de Bienes de Interés Cultural.
The Pósito was built as a granary in the first half of the 18th century. During the Napoleonic occupation, it served as accommodation for French troops from 1810 to 1812. Today, the building houses the premises of the Museo Municipal of Íllora. Its former storage function, its use during the occupation and its present-day museum use are thus part of a shared architectural history.
Permission to found the Convento de San Pedro de Alcántara was requested in 1669. The Roman thermal complex includes a well-preserved heating boiler, black-and-white tessellated mosaics and three basins with drainage channels. Religious architecture, monastic history, the museum and archaeology thus form distinct historical themes within Íllora.
Landscape and Trails
The Cuesta de Cambril viewpoint is located within the municipality of Íllora, on the southern slope of the Sierra de Parapanda. Following its restoration, the Castillo de Íllora is visible in the landscape. Both places connect the municipality’s historical traces with its location on the mountain slope.
The Parapanda Alomartes recreational area can be reached from Íllora via the A-336 towards Alomartes. At the entrance to the village, turn right and continue for approximately 900 m to the car park. The signposted circular trail “Área Recreativa de Alomartes Cerro de los Santos” also begins within the municipality of Íllora, near the district of Alomartes.

Events
Parapanda Folk 2026 in Íllora is the 35th roots music festival. The IX Foro Folk is an annual gathering about roots music and intangible cultural heritage, with public lectures, discussion sessions and presentations at the Museo Municipal de Íllora. The festival and forum therefore differ in terms of music programme, exchange and cultural mediation.
Visiting Hours
The Iglesia de Santa María de la Encarnación is open for free visits from May to September on Saturdays from 18:00 to 22:00 and from October to April on Thursdays from 16:30 to 20:30. The stated time slots differ according to the season and day of the week.
