Nature and Trails

Villafranca de Córdoba has a 79.69-hectare park near the town centre, the Parque Periurbano Fuente Agria. It is named after a mineral spring and is predominantly covered with pine trees of the species Pinus pinea.

The Fuente Agria recreational area on the banks of the Arroyo Pontejón has tables, toilets and car parks. A 4.84 km route with 179 m of ascent leads from Fuente Agria to the Mirador de aves through pine forest. The length and ascent provide a clear basis for comparison if you want to assess the extent of a route in advance.

The footpath from Puente de Hierro to Parque Fluvial is 1.72 km long, runs along the Guadalquivir, is considered to have limited accessibility barriers, and includes adapted footpaths and a birdwatching point. When planning personally, the landscape, riverside location and trail length can be considered as separate focuses. The two trail lengths make the difference in route extent visible.

Culture and History

The Torre y Ermita de San Miguel rises above the remains of the former parish church of Santa Marina in Villafranca de Córdoba, which was built at the end of the 14th century. The Torre y Ermita is characterised by Gothic-Mudéjar architecture and features later Renaissance and Baroque alterations.

The Casa Palacio de los Duques de Medinaceli was built in the last third of the 18th century as the administrator’s residence, on the site of the former Palacio de los Comendadores de Calatrava.

The Puente de Hierro was built at the beginning of the 20th century to transport the goods needed for the construction of the Embalse de Guadalmellato reservoir.

The Ruta Patrimonial de Villafranca de Córdoba, designed by the Ayuntamiento, leads to architectural elements from the 16th to the 18th century. The main altar of the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Marina was taken from the San Francisco y San Eulogio church in Córdoba and moved to the Iglesia Parroquial de Santa Marina.
