La Rambla – Ceramics, Art and History

La Rambla in Córdoba is one of the few remaining isolated centers of artisanal pottery production. In the historic town center, the Naves de la Cerámica have served for several decades as the venue for the annual pottery and ceramics exhibition. You can visit pottery workshops by contacting them in advance to arrange a visit, or discover them independently through the directory.

Culture

In the center of La Rambla, the Museo de la Cerámica is located in an open area bounded by the preserved tower and the last remaining section of the town wall. The museum displays ceramic pieces and images illustrating the development of ceramics in La Rambla from tradition to the present day. Individual and group visits, as well as an educational experience, are offered.

The preserved tower is the Torre de las Monjas, also known as the Torre de Santo Domingo. It is the surviving tower of the former Dominican monastery and dates from the second half of the 17th century, around 1757. The Museo de Alfonso Ariza is a contemporary art museum housed in the former home and studio of the artist and his wife.

The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción features a Plateresque portal created by Hernán Ruiz I. The Iglesia de la Santísima Trinidad is a single-nave Renaissance building with a barrel vault. Its sacramental chapel contains a Rococo altarpiece depicting the martyrdom of the Niño de La Guardia. A church in La Rambla was recognized as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the “Monument” category in 2003.

Landscape

At the highest point of La Rambla stands the Ermita del Calvario, known as “El Calvario.” The present-day ermita corresponds to the reconstruction of 1843 and has a Neoclassical design with a transept.

The Jardines de Andalucía are an extensive, wooded park laid out in terraces on La Rambla’s natural slope; the park begins at the foot of the former castle wall. Along the stairways are fountains and waterfalls influenced by Arab garden design, particularly the Generalife.

The Fuente del Abad is located 500 meters south of La Rambla’s town center on the old road to Santaella. The site is a large, densely wooded open area with exercise trails, recreational areas and a picnic area with barbecue facilities.

Annual Events and Regional Routes

Every year on 15 May, the Romería de San Isidro takes place. Decorated floats adorned with flowers and riders on horseback accompany the image of San Isidro Labrador to the Fuente del Abad.

La Rambla is one of the municipalities along the Montilla-Moriles Wine Route, which runs through the geographical heart of Andalusia. Ceramics, religious architecture, art and parks offer different focal points that you can combine when planning individual days.
