El Hoyo: Castle, Route and Fuente Agria
El Hoyo draws attention to Viandar Castle, which forms part of the cultural heritage of the Alto Guadiato mining region. The castle lies about 500 metres north of El Hoyo, on the 774-metre-high Alto del Castillo del Hoyo. It was probably built during the Caliphate period to protect the approaches to Córdoba from the northwest.

Nature
El Hoyo is surrounded by mountains, dehesas and reservoirs. Around the hamlet stands the Fuente de la Herrumbrosa, built in 1910, in a landscape characterised by holm oaks and streams; it includes a shaded rest area for people passing through the region. The spring in the surroundings of El Hoyo was used for consumption, and medicinal properties were attributed to it. Its iron-rich water also gave it the popular name Fuente Agria.
This natural feature includes the Eucalyptus de la Fuente Agria de El Hoyo. Its broad trunk base forms a platform with a circumference of almost 16 metres. The tree is a Eucalyptus camaldulensis and is listed in the Andalusian Inventory of Notable Trees and Groups of Trees. At the same time, it is one of two trees in the province of Córdoba catalogued as notable eucalyptus trees. The natural features shift in scale from the expansive landscape to the spring and then to the trunk base of a single tree.
Festivals and gastronomy
El Hoyo hosts the Fiestas Mayores in honour of the Virgen de Los Reyes. The Feria Gastronómica de El Hoyo is an annual event for locals and visitors at which typical products and the town's traditional cuisine are presented. The fair includes tastings of typical tapas, traditional cured meats, Vino de Pitarra and homemade desserts, as well as a tasting of migas in the Caseta Municipal. The religious celebration and the gastronomic event focus on different cultural aspects. Savoury and sweet samples are served alongside a beverage and a regional dish.
