Turre: Sierra Cabrera, Gatas and the Fuente Morisca

Turre combines the mountain landscape of the Sierra Cabrera with fertile agricultural fields and lies along the course of the Aguas River.

Nature

The PR-A 370 Turre–El Jalí hiking trail leads into the heart of the Sierra Cabrera. Along the route grow dwarf fan palms, esparto grass and aromatic plants such as purple thyme and curled lavender.

In the rural surroundings of Turre, you can hike along nearby paths and visit places such as the Paraje de Yesos in the Umbría de Sierra Cabrera.

The La Limera-Murtal recreation area is located in a wooded part of the Sierra Cabrera within the municipality of Turre and belongs to the Sierra de Cabrera-Bédar Special Conservation Area. It has tables, barbecue facilities, a spring and a large car park.

History

Gatas in Turre has seven settlement phases, from the first Chalcolithic settlement to an Andalusian settlement. The Argaric and post-Argaric settlements of Gatas include ten construction phases from the Bronze Age.

The Cueva de la Palmera and Cueva de los Murciélagos in Turre contain remains from the Upper Paleolithic, Neolithic and other prehistoric periods.

Culture

The rebuilt Iglesia Parroquial de la Purísima in Turre was designed by the provincial architect Martín Baldó and completed in 1888. Its interior has three naves with barrel vaults; the side aisles are lower than the central nave.

The Fuente Morisca, also known as Fuente de Turre, has been mentioned in documents since 1495. The historic Fuente Morisca has five outlets, a basin, channels for clean and wastewater, a watering trough and a washhouse. The Fuente Morisca is associated with traditional experiences of washing clothes, bathing, secret meetings and children's games.

Activities

The Club de Golf Cortijo Grande is located in the municipality of Turre at the foot of the Sierra Cabrera. The Cortijo Grande golf course is a predominantly flat nine-hole course planted with lemon, orange and olive trees.

The Ruta MTB of the Asociación Cultural y Deportiva Bomberos del Levante Almeriense has reached its fourteenth edition. The Ruta MTB Bomberos del Levante covers a total of 40 kilometers and follows paths within the municipality of Turre.
