Purchena – Culture, Trails and Holiday Apartments

Purchena displays its cultural side particularly clearly through two prominent points of reference: the Juegos Moriscos de Abén Humeya were declared a Fiesta de Interés Turístico Nacional de Andalucía, and the Alcazaba of Purchena crowns the town. From a technical perspective, the Torre del Agua is more accurately a coracha tower. The Torre del Agua contains a spring that once supplied the fortress and the town districts with water.

If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Purchena, compare your travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions on the respective offer pages; your personal priorities regarding culture, trails, landscapes and regional food remain your own decision. You can assign different weights to the stated themes for your own planning: cultural sites, trails, views, an area for spending time outdoors and regional cuisine represent different daily rhythms. The types of activities and the individual route length can be compared just as cultural and culinary priorities can. In Purchena, these priorities can also be arranged according to your preferred daily rhythm: cultural sites and regional cuisine set different accents from cycling and walking; views and spending time outdoors are separate themes in turn. For their personal selection, travellers can therefore first determine which of these specifically mentioned areas should occupy the greatest part of their stay.

Culture

The Museo Municipal de Arqueología Islámica preserves marble Maqabirillas, decorated vessels and other finds from the Alcazaba and the old town of Purchena. The Iglesia de San Ginés was declared a historical-artistic monument in 1983. Construction of the church began in 1550 under the direction of the architect Juan de Orea. It has a roof structure of the Armadura de par y nudillo type, decorated with stars and Alfardones.

Nature and Trails

The Via Verde del Almanzora runs through Purchena. It is suitable for cycling and walking and is accessible to all users, including people with reduced mobility. The PR-A 368 Purchena-La Silveria hiking trail is 19.24 kilometres long. Different trail lengths and types of activity make it easier to compare personal daily plans.

The Mirador de la Silveria viewpoint is located at an altitude of 1,000 metres on the shady slope of the Sierra de Filabres in the municipality of Purchena. From the Mirador de la Silveria, there are views over the Almanzora Valley. The Área Recreativa de La Silveria recreation area has several sections with tables and benches, as well as barbecue areas. Views and spending time outdoors thus form two independent priorities within landscape planning.

Cuisine

Traditional dishes from Purchena include Olla de trigo, Gachas, Migas de trigo and Fritada de conejo or Fritada de cerdo. On this occasion, a picnic is held outdoors, especially in the Gevas area, where specially made Hornazos are among the foods sampled.
