Láujar De Andarax: Holiday Apartment, Hiking Trails and Architectural Heritage

Láujar De Andarax can be explored from two perspectives when choosing a holiday apartment: the landscape at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and the architectural heritage reflected in the townscape. Which of these perspectives you pursue first is left to your travel planning.

Nature

The town lies at an altitude of 918 m in the upper valley of the Río Andarax. The El Nacimiento recreation area is the source of the Río Andarax; beneath the trees there are tables, cascades and quiet water pools. Route D from Laujar de Andarax via Loma Raspa and back passes through riparian forests, past many hundred-year-old holm oaks, as well as through replanted pine forests and high-mountain tussock grasslands. For planning the day, water, forest and mountain vegetation can be considered as different landscape focuses alongside one another.

Trails

The Laujar de Andarax visitor centre can be reached from Laujar de Andarax via the C-332 road; the car park is located at kilometre 1. The Senda de Monterrey is one of several hiking trails through the Sierra Nevada that start from the El Nacimiento recreation area. A route along the fountains of Laujar de Andarax, locally known as “pilares”, invites you to take a walk through the streets. The hiking route and the street circuit offer different experiences; for planning purposes, they can be considered separately.

Culture

Sacred buildings include the Iglesia Parroquial de la Encarnación, which was built in the 17th century. The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Salud was built between the 17th and 18th centuries; externally it has a Mudéjar style, while its interior is Baroque. Only the ruins of the monastery built between the 17th and 18th centuries remain of the Convento de San Pascual. One of the few surviving palace-like residential buildings is located in Laujar de Andarax, on Calle Granada. The house has three storeys and a coat of arms of the Moya family carved in white stone. An inscription on the façade gives 1732 as the year of its construction and names Agustín Gómez as the original owner. For your sightseeing, construction dates, state of preservation and styles can be considered separately, without equating the individual buildings.

In Láujar De Andarax, travel dates, accommodation category and cancellation conditions form a separate basis for comparison. Independently of this, hiking trails, water pools, fountains and historic buildings can be viewed as different thematic directions for planning your trip. When planning the day, you can organise the trails and sights according to their character: a walk through the streets is fundamentally different from a hike, while the buildings form a separate sightseeing category. This allows the different travel experiences to be kept conceptually separate, without defining the town in advance as suited to only one type of trip or prematurely equating the various destinations with one another.
