Discover Guazamara: Art, Cultural Heritage and Festivals
Art, cultural heritage and local festivals give Guazamara several distinct ways to experience a visit. This character is particularly tangible at the Sala Expositiva Françoise Cervantes, where 24 oil paintings and seven sanguines are permanently displayed. The Sala is located in the Centro de Usos Múltiples, C/ El Llano, S/N, 04619, Guazamara-Cuevas del Almanzora, Almería. It can be visited by prior appointment. On 26 June, the Sala de Exposiciones Francoise Cervantes in Guazamara was scheduled to host the 29th edition of the Tertulia Artística y Literaria del Almanzora.
Culture
Guazamara's cultural heritage also includes the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario and the Lavadero de Guazamara. The different forms can be deliberately considered side by side when planning your own visit: the exhibition offers a concentrated artistic perspective, while the church and Lavadero direct attention to traditional places. If you are travelling with different interests, you can take up these themes separately, without specifying a fixed order.
Festivals and local cuisine
One event in spring is the Romería Guazamara–Los Guiraos. It began in 1996 and usually takes place on the third Sunday in May. During the three-day Romería, paella, potatoes cooked in garlic and grilled sardines are among the dishes served. At midnight, it ends with a large chocolate event featuring churros.
The Fiestas de Guazamara take place on 7 October in honour of the Virgen del Rosario and are normally held on the weekend closest to this date. They begin with a parade of giant figures and big-head figures, accompanied by a marching band. The festival then includes a lunchtime event in the town's bars as well as an award for the best dishes.
Anyone wishing to structure a stay around special occasions will find different rhythms here: several days of festivities, a midnight event, a parade and a lunchtime event. The culinary details each form part of the described programme and do not stand separately from the festival.
Route
Another perspective is offered by the route through the noteworthy districts of Cuevas del Almanzora. It passes through the districts located inland, including Guazamara, and is designed as a one-day morning plan.
The route arranges a visit to the area by time of day, while the two festivals are described with fixed calendar dates and their own programmes. For personal planning, these different time and thematic frameworks can be compared separately.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Guazamara, you can initially compare travel dates, room category and cancellation policies on the accommodation pages. The information on travel dates, room category and cancellation policies helps you organise different options according to your own travel plans.
