Fuente Victoria is home to the Iglesia de la Encarnación: built in 1557, it combines elements of the Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.

Culture

The Ermita Nuestra Señora de Los Ángeles was built in the 17th century and is the sanctuary where the miraculous image of the town’s patron saint is venerated. The Palacio del Rey Chico is a building in the Mudéjar style constructed in the 17th century. According to tradition, the Fuente de la Reina was built in honor of Morayma, Boabdil’s wife, after her death.

On the Fuente Plaza Maestro Barco stands a fountain built in the 19th century from stones from local mines. The Pósito-Ayuntamiento was built during the repopulation of 1572. The Fiesta de los Alcaldillos is an intangible tradition associated with Fuente Victoria. Thus, the buildings, squares and traditions mentioned bring together different historical periods and forms of cultural heritage.

Wine

Another specific aspect is Bodega Fuente Victoria: it offers guided tours and wine tastings. Its wines are protected by the protected geographical indication Láujar-Alpujarra. Bodega Fuente Victoria produces white, rosé and red wines in Fuente Victoria. The offering therefore combines a visit to a specific winery with a tasting and a clearly named indication of origin; at the same time, several types of wine are represented.

Trails and Landscape

The SL-A 181 Las Acequias del Río hiking trail passes Fuente Victoria and runs along a path between cultivated fields and poplar groves. The trail passes through a semi-desert-like rambla, a riverside area with lush vegetation and a vega.

The PR-A 203 hiking trail offers views of the Sierra Nevada and the Andarax Valley. The trail connecting Fondón and Fuente Victoria passes through El Chaparral, which is considered a Mediterranean forest. For the PR-A 203, the route from Almería to Fondón follows the former national road to Granada, now the A92a or N340a, and then continues along the A348 towards Alhama de Almería. A historic path along the Acequia Tejera connects Fuente Victoria and Benecid.

The different trail routes can be compared according to their landscape impressions and connections between places. The SL-A 181 is described as a sequence of fields, poplar groves, rambla, riverside area and vega. On the PR-A 203, the views of the Sierra Nevada and the Andarax Valley, the connection between Fondón and Fuente Victoria, and El Chaparral take center stage. The historic path along the Acequia Tejera forms another distinct connection between Fuente Victoria and Benecid.

For Fuente Victoria, a holiday apartment can be considered as a starting point for personal travel planning; on the accommodation pages, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be compared at your leisure. This keeps the period, category and conditions of each offer separately visible, without anticipating the cultural, wine and landscape themes described above.
