Culture

On 9 May 1945, German Colonel General Alexander Löhr signed the unconditional surrender of his units in Topolšica, near Šoštanj. The memorial room “Topolšica 9. maj 1945” commemorates this historical event. It can be visited around the clock throughout the year; admission is free every day of the year.

Topolšica Spa Park is protected as a garden-architectural heritage site. Protected walking paths run through the park along the Toplica stream. Topolšica Spa first opened to the public in 1838, at that time under the name Florjanove toplice. The spa also offers massages and wellness treatments.

Topolšica is also home to the Church of St. James. In the municipal register, it is listed under the designation S 19 in area K 9/5c.

Nature

The themed butterfly trail “Za metulji na potep” runs through Topolšica and Lom. All three versions of the trail begin at Topolšica Natural Spa. The trail offers views of the Šalek Valley as well as impressions of flowering meadows and the surrounding forests.

Another connection between Topolšica and Lom is Route 3. It leads from the spa resort of Topolšica along its slopes. More than 140 butterfly species live year-round along Route 3 from Topolšica to Lom. In the vicinity of Topolšica and Lom, the varied terrain and the distinctive microclimate associated with a thermal water spring provide suitable living conditions for many different butterfly species.
