Tržič begins with an Old Town that is fully protected as a cultural monument.

Culture

The Tržič Museum is located in the former Pollak dye works and tannery in Tržič’s old blacksmithing and crafts district, next to preserved water channels. Fužina Germovka is the best-preserved blacksmith’s workshop in Tržič. The Slovenian Ski Museum is a department of the Tržič Museum and is located in the Pollak House. Its exhibition covers the development of skiing, from its prehistoric beginnings as a means of transport to modern ski champions.

Shoemaking also holds a special place in Tržič. The “Tržiški šuštarji” exhibition at the Tržič Museum is considered the most extensive shoemaking collection in Slovenia. The historic Old Town of Tržič is associated with a tradition of crafts that included ironworking, coachbuilding, textile and leather processing, and above all shoemaking.

Kurnik House combines rural and small-town architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries and the first half of the 20th century. Its features include, among other things, a brick ground floor, a wooden upper floor, a shingle roof, a black kitchen and drying openings in the roof.

Trails

The Museum Detective Trail leads through Tržič’s Old Town to Neuhaus Castle. The “Sledi industrije” trail uses metal shoeprints to lead to historic shoemaking sites throughout Tržič’s historic centre. It is approximately 2 km long and takes about one and a half hours with short breaks.

The walk to St Joseph’s Church takes a little more than ten minutes from Tržič town centre. The trail offers a view of Tržič’s historic district. Kamnek can be reached from Tržič’s historic town centre via an easy route that takes about one hour.

Nature

Since spring 2014, a nature trail has led through the Blata wetland in the nearby area and includes 11 observation points. The Dovžanova soteska gorge, also in the nearby area, is protected as a natural monument. A scenic nature trail also leads through the Dovžanova soteska gorge in the vicinity of the town.

In the nearby area, visitors can explore the completely preserved, five-kilometre-long cave system of Šentanski rudnik on a guided tour through Antonov rov on the fifth level.

Cuisine

Traditional dishes from Tržič include Tržiške bržole, a stew made with mutton or sheep meat. In Tržič’s restaurants, selected traditional dishes from Tržič are prepared in a modern style.

Events

Šuštarska nedelja takes place on the first Sunday in September.

It is also worth reviewing the included services, individual price components, and booking and cancellation policies. This makes it possible to compare different offers in Tržič objectively, without attributing to any one accommodation features that are not expressly stated in the offer. The specific fields of each offer remain decisive: they show which services are provided and what should be checked before booking.
