The “Pesniška pot” begins at the fruit market in Pesnica. The route, including its stops along the way, can be completed on foot in four hours. One of the noteworthy stops is the “Etnološki muzej pri Edru”. The “Sadjarski center” in Gačnik is also a noteworthy stop on the “Pesniška pot”. Horse riding is also available along the route at Jože Frajzman’s. Every autumn, the traditional “PRAZNIK SADJA, VINA IN CVETJA” festival is held at the same fruit market.

Culture

A special insight into the rural past is provided by the ethnological collection “ŠTIBL”. On the ground floor of the building and in the surrounding area, it displays more than 500 examples of agricultural machinery and tools under the title “OD SETVE DO ŽETVE”. This means that the focus is not on just one exhibit, but on an extensive collection relating to work from sowing to harvest.

The cultural heritage of Pesnica also includes “Pesnica pri Mariboru – Hiša Pesnica pri Mariboru 18”. The building is a protected monument. Its cultural-historical, ethnological, architectural, artistic, environmental and landscape values are protected. The interior furnishings, structural elements and fittings of the former Hojnik estate have been preserved. The house also preserves high-quality architecture from the second half of the 19th century. It was once part of a larger vineyard estate.

An educational (learning) farm shows young people how to work with old machines and teaches them about life on a farm, agricultural activities and handling animals.

Trails and landscape

For cyclists, the “KOLESARSKA POT PO OBRONKIH PESNICE” also starts at the fruit market in Pesnica pri Mariboru. The town centre of Pernica near the Kramberger inn is named as an alternative starting point. The route is particularly suitable for recreational cyclists. The cycle path leads through the quiet Gačniška Valley and then back to the centre of Pesnica.

Several other points are marked along the cycling route. The “Vogrinov muzej – mlin na veter” in Jakobski Dol is listed as one of the sights along the cycling route. Perniško jezero is likewise listed as one of the sights along the cycling route from Pesnica. The names of the trails and stops retain their own character: the “Pesniška pot”, with its stops along the way, exists alongside the designated cycling route, which can also begin in Pernica.

History and wine

Pesnica developed and grew near a railway line newly built in the mid-19th century. Apples from Slovenske Gorice were once transported in large quantities from Pesnica railway station to imperial Vienna. In the municipality of Pesnica, visitors can taste a variety of predominantly white wines.
