The Krokar primeval forest is a 74.49-hectare primeval forest reserve on Borovška gora and the largest remaining primeval forest in Slovenia. In Kočevje, protected forest landscapes, historic sites and unusual experiences in nature come together.

Nature
The Pragozdna pot Krokar circular trail is about two kilometres long, has an elevation gain of 150 metres and leads to the edge of the Krokar primeval forest without entering it.
The programme on the Borovec nature trail includes a walk from the village of Borovec with views of the Kolpa Valley and the Krokar primeval forest. It ends with a forest picnic featuring local specialities.
At 55 metres tall and with a circumference of over 500 centimetres, Kraljica Roga is a fir tree; it stands not far from the Rajhenav primeval forest.
Water and Experiences
Lake Kočevje is an artificial lake with an area of approximately 39 hectares and a depth of almost 40 metres, which was created between 1973 and 1978 in the basin of a brown coal mine.
Swimming, surfing, sailing, diving and fishing are possible at Lake Kočevje.
The experience “Secrets of the UNESCO-listed Krokar Primeval Forest” uses a VR headset to show 15 different locations in the Krokar primeval forest, as well as a 360-degree view and two videos about the life and function of trees.
Culture and History
The Regional Museum of Kočevje was founded in 1952 and has been located in the Šešek House since 1963.
The themed city tour of Kočevje includes 23 buildings and two bridges and presents important stages in the city’s history. During this tour, a 3D reconstruction of the former Kočevje Castle can be viewed via a special app.
Fridrihštajn Castle was built between 1423 and 1425 by Count Friderik Celjski for Veronika Deseniška. Its ruins can be reached via a short climbing route or a hiking trail from Kočevje.
The Škrilj bunker may not be visited without an escort.
The Željne Caves can be visited independently or as part of a booked guided tour; suitable sportswear, sturdy footwear and a lamp are required. The Željne Caves can be reached via a forest path that begins at the car park in the village of Željne.
Cuisine
“Okusi skrivnostnega gozda Slovenije” includes a forest picnic at Lake Rudniško with Beljanov’s wild boar goulash and MATT beer. In addition, “Okusi skrivnostnega gozda Slovenije” is a culinary cycling tour through Kočevsko accompanied by a local guide.
Information and Transport
The TIC Jezero information centre provides visitors with cultural, tourist, sports and other information about Kočevsko. Regular passenger services to Ljubljana operate from Kočevje railway station.
